Medicaid is a jointly funded Federal-State health insurance program
for persons with low income and/or disabilities. School Based Services
allows reimbursement under the Medicaid program for services
administered to students with special needs under the Individuals with
Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and is administered through Berrien
RESA .
The School Based Services (SBS) program consists of two
programs, Fee for Service and Administrative Outreach. The Fee for
Service program allows Medicaid reimbursement for direct health-related
services provided to individuals who are Medicaid eligible and who are
receiving Special Education services. The following services are
eligible for reimbursement:
- Assistive Technology
- Audiology Services
- Case Management Services
- IDEA Assessments
- Nursing Services
- Occupational Therapy
- Orientation & Mobility Services
- Physical Therapy
- Social Worker Services
- Special Transportation
- Speech Therapy
The
Administrative Outreach program allows school districts to obtain
reimbursement for administrative costs of identifying and helping
students who are considered "at-risk" for various health problems. A
time-study occurs quarterly and is used to track the time spent on
Outreach activities by school personnel.
