B8
is a Severely Cognitive Impaired classroom with students ages fifteen
through twenty-six. Few of our students communicate effectively, the
classroom provides continuous opportunities to facilitate communication
through words, signs, pictures, or augmentative devices throughout all
activities. Some of the key areas concentrated on are:

Socialization

Tactile Stimulation

Compliance

Table work-hand eye coordination

Self-help skills (eating, grooming, and hygiene)
There
is a high concentration on positive human interaction in this classroom
through structured group activities such as swimming, art, music
therapy, cooking, art, computer, library, and community-based outings.
Students also learn and maintain skills associated with daily living
such as self-care, daily jobs, and leisure skills. Classroom purpose
focuses on assisting students in achieving to their highest level of
ability with their communication, socialization, sensory-motor, and
academic goals.
